Employment Law For Employers

Being a business owner myself, I understand that what we want most is to see our businesses succeed. California employment law is complicated, requires strict compliance, and tends to favor the employee. As such, simple, and often well-intended, missteps can expose an employer to unnecessary and costly litigation. Legal disputes with employees can also be time consuming and draining, both personally and professionally.

The services I provide to my employer clients fall into three general categories: litigation defense, initiating best practices, and ongoing consultation. Employers come to my office because an employee has filed or threatened to file an employment claim. In these instances, I navigate, negotiate, and defend against the claim. I also provide employment advising on compliance and best practices. Not only does this up-front preventative advising help avoid or limit potential claims it can also place the employer in a stronger position if litigation arises. Lastly, I act as an on-call advisor for my employer clients.

I offer my services to employers regarding the following issues:

  • Wage and hour compliance
  • Policies, Procedures, and handbooks
  • Classifications (independent contractor/exempt status)
  • Hiring, discipline, and termination
  • Contract drafting and review
  • Discrimination, harassment, and Retaliation Claims
  • Wage and hour claims
  • Discrimination and Harassment Training

If you have questions concerning any of these issues, please call the Law office of Eric John Nelson at (831) 588 – 4818 for a free and confidential consultation.
